Local mitigation is any sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to human life and property from hazards.

Local Mitigation Strategy:

  • Identify hazard risk
  • Develop strategies to reduce it
  • Break the disaster cycle

A Local Mitigation Strategy will benefit Santa Rosa County by:

  • Understand the risks and vulnerabilities to hazards.
  • Gain eligibility to receive funding from the federal government for hazard mitigation projects.
  • Reduce long-term impacts and damages to human health and structures, as well as lowering repair and maintenance costs.

Community input will help inform the County's understanding of how hazards impact the lives of County residents.


Participate in our Public Survey

Santa Rosa County requests your response to this survey in support of the County’s Local Mitigation Strategy. The plan will assess the County’s risk to hazards (including severe weather events, natural hazards, and human-caused hazards) and identify strategies to mitigate them. All data collected in this survey will be used strictly to inform the planning process.
